Chris Frangou is an award winning bass player, composer and producer based in Melbourne, Australia. He is immersed in a wide range of musical cultures as far spread as jazz, electronic, hip-hop, Ethio-jazz, funk and rock.
His diverse musical palate and experience has seen him composing and performing live around the world and in the studio for numerous Australian and international artists.
His debut album ‘Kaleidoscope’ is a brand new perspective on 21st century jazz featuring Hue Blanes on electric and acoustic pianos and Matt Head on drums and percussion. The energy, spontaneity and groove of Frangou’s multi-layered odd-time compositions find its origins in music from the Balkans, East Africa and the Middle East whilst also incorporating practices from the schools of rock, funk, hip-hop and other improvised idioms. This album features guests Tom Fryer, Ian Dixon and Grammy nominated New York bass player Panagiotis Andreou.
